Canadian Tire to pay $85 million for sporting goods chain

Canadian Tire will acquire Pro Hockey Life Sporting Goods, a Montreal-based chain of 23 hockey superstores spread through five Canadian provinces. The $85 million acquisition is part of the retailer's strategy for competing with Target by focusing on specialized areas instead of trying to go head-to-head on price, industry experts say.
