Conn. school district's parents are concerned about math curriculum

A math curriculum that emphasizes group learning and reduces lecture time by teachers is leading to concern among some parents in Fairfield, Conn. The parents this week brought complaints about the "inquiry-based learning" approach to math instruction before the local board of education, with one parent saying the children seemed to be losing confidence in their math skills, rather than becoming stronger in the subject.
