Federal workers get expanded whistle-blower protections

President Barack Obama has enacted a law that clarifies which whistle-blowing activities are protected under federal law, imposes harsher penalties for violating whistle-blower protections, changes the requirements for nondisclosure agreements and establishes an ombudsman position for some federal agencies. "The bill contains important reforms, but federal employees still lack most of the basic rights available to whistle-blowers in the private sector," Stephen Kohn, executive director of the National Whistleblowers Center, said in a statement.
