First-time unemployment claims fall as Sandy's effects fade

Initial jobless claims dropped 23,000 to 393,000 last week as the labor market rebounded from the effects of Hurricane Sandy. It was the first time the number dropped below 400,000 since the huge storm sent new applications for unemployment benefits spiking to 451,000.
