IMS predicts a surge in M2M links

The number of machine-to-machine connections will surge over the next four years as mobile operators expand their service offerings and regulators promote programs such as eCall in Europe, an IMS Research report predicts. IMS forecasts that the number of M2M links will grow to 326 million by 2016, more than triple the number from 2011. "Mobile operators are not simply providing managed connectivity services to the cellular M2M market but increasingly are 'connecting the dots' among M2M ecosystem players," IMS analyst Sam Lucero said.
