BSGI improves detection of malignant, high-risk lesions

A retrospective study showed breast-specific gamma imaging had a higher sensitivity than mammography, 91% compared with 71%, in pinpointing malignant and high-risk lesions. BSGI improved the identification of the lesions particularly in patients with negative or indeterminate mammograms, the study said. BSGI also was more cost-effective than other imaging techniques, such as MRI and positron emission mammography, the researchers said.
