EPA proposes sulfur dioxide limits to protect public health

A proposed EPA rule to reduce sulfur dioxide would represent the first time the agency has sought to control the pollutant to protect public health since 1971. EPA science advisers said the health benefits from limiting sulfur dioxide would outweigh new costs to industry. A public hearing on the measure is set for January.
