Hoover Dam receives stainless-steel wicket gates

Engineers continue to modernize Nevada's historic Hoover Dam, which provides power to 15 electric utilities in three states. Workers have replaced cast-steel wicket gates with stainless-steel wicket gates on six of the dam's 17 turbine-generators. The new wicket gates weigh about 2,300 pounds, and the cost to replace all 24 wicket gates on one turbine-generator totals about $1 million.
