LED the way to greener lighting

While compact fluorescent light bulbs offer a significant energy saving over conventional light bulbs, the real breakthrough is in the next generation of home lighting: LED bulbs. A study from German lighting company Osram finds that conventional incandescent bulbs use almost five times more power over their lifetimes than LEDs and CFLs. As a newcomer to the lighting field, LEDs are likely to become more efficient over time and they don't contain mercury.
