Index shows highest consumer confidence in U.S. since June

Boosted by signs of recovery in job prospects and an increase in the expectations index, the U.S. consumer confidence posted a strong improvement in November, according to the Conference Board. The consumer confidence index jumped to 54.1 in November, up from a level of 49.9 a month earlier -- the highest since June. "Consumer confidence is now at its highest level in five months, a welcome sign as we enter the holiday season," said Lynn Franco, director of The Conference Board Consumer Research Center.
