Poll: Americans split on Medicare, Social Security cuts

An Associated Press-CNBC poll found the public almost evenly divided over whether the government should balance the budget by reducing Medicare and Social Security benefits for the wealthiest recipients. Meanwhile, 47% approve spending cuts that eliminate education, health and energy programs, while 46% said those programs should expand even if they add to the deficit.
