Senate votes to give FDA more power with passage of food safety bill

The Senate passed food safety legislation today by a vote of 73 to 25, which would allow for more government oversight and prevention of outbreaks before they occur. "Consumer trust is the foundation of everything food companies do, and the industry recognized we needed a stronger partner at FDA if we were going to restore trust in the safety of our food supplies," said an industry spokesman.
