Magazines and advertisers are quick to seize on action codes

With ads leading the way, quick-response codes and Microsoft Tags in magazines increased nearly 500% from January to September, according to mobile-tech company Nellymoser. A survey found that the top 100 circulating titles had 88 action codes in January, 507 in September and 1,155 in the third quarter. Advertising accounts for much of the gain, with a 7-to-1 ratio of editorial to action codes in January growing to nearly 20-to-1 by September.
