Veterinarians train Vietnamese pathologists to detect emerging diseases

Suzan Murray, chief veterinary medical officer at the Smithsonian's National Zoological Park, trained Vietnamese pathologists to detect emerging zoonotic disease as part of PREDICT, one arm of the U.S. Agency for International Development's Emerging Pandemic Threats program. "Our goal ... is to prepare and train the next generation of 'one-health' professionals, which will include pathologists, to conduct surveillance, recognize and catch these viruses early, before they become the next pandemic," said Dr. Murray.
