Dollar General leads "small-box" trend

The chief executive of Dollar General says his discount company shares Wal-Mart's "down-home" approach but doesn't try to compete with the big-box retailer's wide range of offerings. Instead, Dollar General has found success with smaller stores in rural and lower-income areas, and plans to open more Dollar General Markets with expanded grocery offerings.
