Slasher novella earns middle school author controversial suspension

Dylan Finkle wrote a 10-chapter novel replete with gory themes from horror movies for a creative writing class at his Syosset, N.Y., school. Administrators concerned about the work's preoccupation with violence suspended the 11-year-old for more than six weeks, a punishment which the boy's lawyer says violated his rights to free speech and due process.
