Minneapolis to close 25% of its elementary and middle schools

Faced with a shrinking enrollment, the Minneapolis school board voted yesterday to shutter 17 campuses during the next two years. District officials, who purposely avoided projecting the savings generated by the closings, must now begin work on the transition plan and determine what they'll do with the vacant buildings.
