School soda sales fizzle

Non-diet soda sales in schools slumped by 24% between 2002 and 2004, while sports drinks sales for the same period rose by nearly 70%, reports the American Beverage Association. ABA president Susan Neely says the data indicate student drink preferences are shifting, but a School Nutrition Association spokesman notes that schools have limited access to junk food due to new laws and fears of litigation.
