Medicines for Malaria Venture seeks more research funds from U.S.

The Medicines for Malaria Venture is asking Congress and the U.S. Agency for International Development to increase research funding from about $1.6 million to $10 million annually for at least four years, beginning in 2010. The Switzerland-based international nonprofit said the research will focus not only on treatments for the Plasmodium falciparum malaria but also the rarer Plasmodium vivax malaria.
