N.Y. railways fight for slice of DOT funding

As the New York Transportation Department debates the use of its $25.8 billion, five-year capital plan, railroads are angling for attention. Railroads of New York, which represents the rail freight industry, told a DOT committee that the state's rail system could use $800 million from the capital plan to make badly needed track upgrades and system improvements.
