Wisconsin lawmakers to introduce groundwater legislation

Wisconsin lawmakers could introduce proposals next year to preserve the Land of the Lakes from being sapped by increasing demand for groundwater. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the use of groundwater in the state increased 63% from 1979 to 2000. Wisconsin is the third-largest potato producer in the U.S., and much of the state's agriculture depends on groundwater for crop irrigation.
