Senate passes food safety bill, but it hits a snag

Although the Senate passed the food safety bill Tuesday, the measure may be headed right back to the Senate because it pre-empted the tax-writing authority that belongs to the House when it included revenue-raising fees in the bill. "We understand there is a blue slip problem, and we expect the House to assert its rights under the Constitution to be the place where revenue bills begin," said a House GOP aide.
