Horse advocates welcome horse slaughter reinstatement

While the ban on horse slaughter likely stemmed from "the best of intentions," the unintended consequences for horses were severe and serious, said Val Vail-Shirey, the executive director of the Michigan Equine Partnership. "All of a sudden all of the unwanted horses were suffering brutal, painful deaths, of old age, with no end-of-life plan," Vail-Shirey said.
