Calif. district designs hands-on lessons under common core

A California school district is aligning its curricula with the Common Core State Standards this year, in part, by using project-based learning. In one exercise about weather, third-grade students created "cloud finders" designed to help them predict the weather by studying cloud types and using instruments. Teachers from Central Coast New Tech High School, which uses project-based learning, recently held workshops for educators at other schools to share lessons.
