ESL students get a lesson in American lingo

Slang expressions used in American language are taking center stage in a "street talk" program offered by the UCLA Extension's American Language Center. The course seeks to help students who speak English as a second language understand expressions unique to American culture. "My conversation is more academic, or more like an essay," one student said, adding that she wants to be able to understand jokes on her favorite American sitcoms.
