Researchers develop optical waveguides under DARPA program

Researchers at the California Institute of Technology and the University of California at Santa Barbara have created optical waveguides with silicon oxide and silicon nitride, respectively, in semiconductors and include up to 50 meters of coiled material for delaying light, according to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. The research was carried out under DARPA's Integrated Photonic Delay program.
