City controller offers to supervise audit of L.A. schools

Los Angeles City Controller Laura Chick, an ally of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, has suggested her office should do an audit of Los Angeles Unified School District's management and operations. School system officials haven't said yet whether they'll accept her offer, although they insist they're not concerned the mayor could use her findings to bolster a bid for more control over city schools.
