Despite expected drop, data-breach problems persist

The number of data breaches is on pace to decline by 50% this year, according to the Identity Theft Resource Center, which said there had been 435 breaches through Nov. 17. If the trend holds it would mark the first time since 2005 that the number of data breaches exposing sensitive information has fallen. Despite the apparent decline, experts say the number of personal records that have been exposed this year has actually increased.
