FDA says caffeine not allowed in alcoholic beverages

In a November letter to 30 manufacturers, the Food and Drug Administration said "there are no food additive regulations that permit the addition of caffeine at any level in alcoholic beverages." Companies that have been making and marketing drinks containing both alcohol and caffeine were given a month to prove that the combination is safe.
