Vancouver Olympic Village strives for LEED Gold

Vancouver wants its 2010 Winter Olympic Athlete Village to go green -- and aim for gold. The city expects its redevelopment of an 80-acre site housing 16,000 people to become North America's first LEED for Neighborhood Development pilot programs targeting Gold. "Approximately 50% of the buildings have green roofs and 50% direct the water into irrigation and functions such as toilet flushing," said project engineer Wally Konowalchuk.
