WiMAX providers file 25% of stimulus requests

WiMAX operators applied for $1.6 billion in federal stimulus grants to provide broadband access in underserved areas, the WiMAX Forum disclosed, adding that not all of them were filed for rural regions, but for big cities. "WiMAX can be deployed over wide areas to serve thousands of consumers cheaper and faster than traditional wireline service," WiMAX Forum President and Chairman Ron Resnick said.
