Universities receive federal rail grants for bio-based research

North Carolina State University has received a grant of about $400,000 from the Federal Railroad Administration to continue its research into the creation of high-quality biofuels for freight- and passenger-rail locomotives. The University of Northern Iowa also received an FRA grant, of about $370,000, to study the use of biodegradable soy-based lubricants by freight- and passenger-rail companies.
