VeraStem to search for drugs that target cancer stem cells

VeraStem has started screening 300,000 compounds to identify ones that can effectively home in on cancer stem cells, said Robert A. Weinberg, a researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Weinberg said the company at first will test the efficacy of an antibacterial compound, called Salinomycin, that has been found to target cancer stem cells in breast cancer.
