Flame retardant exposure raises type 2 diabetes risk

Individuals with the highest exposure to flame retardant chemicals had a more than twofold increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes compared with those who had the lowest exposure, South Korean researchers reported in Diabetes Care. Exposure to the highest levels of the chemicals was also associated with a threefold increased risk of metabolic syndrome compared with the lowest exposure.
