Mobile app helps screen newborns for heart defects

A smartphone application created by cardiologists at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta called Pulse Ox Tool can automate pulse oximetry screening calculations, helping to prevent a delay in diagnosis of congenital heart defects in newborns. The free app, available from iTunes, Google Play and the Windows Phone Store, yielded substantially lower error rates compared with manually calculated algorithms.
