Roofing experts explain impact of storms on roofs

Storms can damage roofs even if the damage can't be seen, said Reed Hitchcock, executive vice president of the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association. Strong winds and rain could cause water to penetrate flashings and start leaks, said Nate Horowitz from J&A Roofing in New York. For new roofs, Horowitz suggests a product called Ice and Water Shield to prevent water from ice dams from penetrating the roof.
