SCE finds possible tampering with backup generator

One of the backup diesel generators at Southern California Edison's idled San Onofre nuclear plant in California might have been tampered with, the utility said, adding that it has informed the Nuclear Regulatory Commission about the matter. Plant workers discovered engine coolant in the generator's oil system in late October, the company said. SCE "is committed to the safety of the public and its employees and takes this matter very seriously," said Pete Dietrich, senior vice president and chief nuclear officer at the plant.
