Apple edges into social media with acquisition of analytics firm

Apple is expected to get into social media analytics with its purchase of Topsy Labs, whose specialty is Twitter. Topsy categorizes messages on the social network to help identify key subjects, Twitter users and events. Advertisers, media companies and developers all "would appreciate having access to more of this real-time data. Now Apple has a new tool to help the companies that use its services become better, smarter marketers," eMarketer's Debra Aho Williamson says.
