Fla. school partners with parents to teach Spanish at home

Immokalee Community School in Florida has asked parents to pledge to speak Spanish to their children at least 30 minutes a day, as a condition for attendance. The charter school serves migrant communities and has a population that is 94% Hispanic, and most speak Spanish. The school offers workshops to encourage parents to speak to their children in Spanish while cooking, talking about movies and sharing family traditions to help students become bilingual.
