Geriatric consultations boost functional recovery in older trauma patients

Trauma patients aged 65 and older who received routine geriatric consultations before surgery were able to perform more daily activities a year after discharge than the control group, a study in the journal JAMA Surgery showed. Among patients who did not receive geriatric consultations, the activity most frequently lost following injury was the ability to shop for personal items.
