Housewares boost Penney's Black Friday comeback

J.C. Penney opened its stores at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving with doorbuster sales and 70% Black Friday discounts that harked back to the retailer's roots, moves that paid off in strong traffic, New York City store manager Joe Cardamone said. The retailer stocked stores with private label lines such as St. John's Bay and brought back basics including pots and pans, small appliances, towels and luggage.
