India's first BPL-powered smart meter nears completion

India's Genus Power Infrastructures Limited is on its way to establishing the nation's first domestically manufactured smart meter powered by broadband over power line technology. The meters -- which will support smart grid applications and encrypted communications and boast speeds of 40 Mbps -- are being developed in collaboration with Corinex Communications and are expected to be commercially available in three months.
