Infected e-mail leads to major breach at Seattle hospital

A string of malicious code attached to an e-mail wreaked havoc on the networks of Seattle's Harborview Medical Center and University of Washington Medical Center in October, exposing the private data of as many as 90,000 patients, officials reported last week. The stolen data included at least 15,000 social security numbers, said hospital investigators, who have initiated protocol to inform affected consumers and provide credit services to prevent identity theft.
