Study confirms benefits of mail-order pharmacies

Data on more than 17,000 diabetes patients showed 40.2% of those who picked up their heart drug prescriptions in person had an emergency department visit, compared with 33.8% of those who received their drugs through mail-order pharmacies. "Improving medication adherence also means lower overall health care costs," PCMA President and CEO Mark Merritt said in a statement. The study results appear in the American Journal of Managed Care.
