Study: TAVR outperforms surgery for aortic stenosis in patients with diabetes

Data on patients with diabetes who were treated for aortic stenosis revealed those who underwent transcatheter aortic valve replacement had lower rates of all-cause mortality and renal failure at one year than those treated with surgery. "[A] less invasive method of valve replacement that avoids the injurious effects of cardiopulmonary bypass may lead to improved clinical outcomes among these high-risk patients with diabetes," researchers wrote in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
