Government looks to curb painkiller abuse

The FDA and Drug Enforcement Administration are working on a plan to market painkillers that incorporate time-releasing mechanisms that curb the potential for abuse. The FDA is expected to make abuse management part of the requirements for drug approval, and the DEA suggests narrowing the scenarios in which doctors prescribe certain opioids.
