Rain turns Hilo into laid-back, beautiful destination

Hilo, a low-key Hawaiian town, has endured numerous catastrophes and other hardships over the years, including earthquakes, volcano eruptions, bug infestations, tidal waves and threats from foreigners. But it was the rain, not some flashier event, that transformed the town into a quieter island destination.
