Tips for effective doctor communication

Communicating with doctors is key for receiving quality medical care, according to one expert. Now, patient advocates are helping patients learn what to say, and promoting techniques such as: thinking ahead about what to talk about, avoiding too much small talk, mentioning pressing concerns as early in the appointment as possible, taking notes, bringing someone else along to appointments, showing respect for a doctor's expertise and saying "thank you."
