New Baker Hughes technology center invests in future

The grand opening Tuesday of Baker Hughes' $42 million research center in northwest Houston signals a long-term investment in developing talent and technology for producing oil and gas in harsh environments, despite a recent slowdown of work because of the economy. The Center for Technology Innovation will focus 600 scientists and engineers on crafting tools that can hold up under extreme temperature and pressure to get at oil and gas in inhospitable locations.
