Standard graduation calculation may benefit special education

A standard national calculation for graduation rates may boost support for students with special needs, some advocates say. The calculation only includes regular diplomas, discouraging schools from allowing students to take easier paths toward certificates of completion or other alternative diplomas, said Ricki Sabia, the National Down Syndrome Society's associate director of policy.
